(In my best Michael Buffer voice)"In this corner!!! This tv show has been on for 6 seasons and has ruled the ratings race
for network tv and solidified AMC as a true powerhouse for tv shows and is a bestseller in the comic book world and some argue
the best cast on television and has one of the best comic book writers of all time...ladies and gentlemen
..THE WALKIIIIIIING...DEEEAAADD!......and in this corner...this tv show has also now been on for almost 6 seasons and they have
no boundaries and they have actually won emmys for acting and best drama...their tv show is based off bestselling books and some
argue THEY have the best overall cast on television and one of the best fantasy writers of all time.....boys and girls..
The GAAAAAAAAAAAME OF THRONESSSSS!!!!"(the television crowd goes wild!)

Ok ive started my very first article off a little crazy i know but it would be pretty cool to see this fight.Let me start off by saying that both of these shows are pure amazing and it would be hard for me to pick a winner(but i will!).I imagine its how i felt when The Immortal Hulk Hogan fought The Ultimate Warrior. Those 2 wrestlers were 2 powerhouses and were immovable objects but you had to pick a side(for the record....I was cheering for Warrior..and Hogan..SHUT UP!dont judge me!)I dont think ive ever thought about comparing these 2 shows and maybe you cant BUT recently Robert Kirkman made a comment about the Game of Thrones season 6 and how Martin has allowed the tv show writers to know the end to his story and continue the story without the book being finished.Robert Kirkman had this to say to Rolling Stone Magazine "I would never do that," he said to the magazine. "That's the one thing I'm disappointed in George R.R. Martin for doing. He should have just been like,'(expletive) you. You make it up now, I'll get to mine when I'm ready."

First things first...Kirkman said later through a series of tweets that he was just kidding and that he loves GOT(Game of Thrones for you non Game of Thrones folk)and I guess we seen that "im just kidding" tweet coming from a mile away.Dont get me wrong though...I may not like that he said what he said even if he was joking but if he meant it and I think there was some truth to it then stand by it! Kirkman loves The Walking Dead and rightfully so cuz its his baby..he birthed it,he nursed it,he changed its diaper,he...ok ok ill stop with the baby references.I think to a certain extent he did mean it because he wouldnt,i dont believe, allow tv writers to determine the direction of his show and I think its just his passion coming in the interview for his baby(sorry sorry).I dont believe also though that George RR Martin is allowing HBO to do whatever they want with his GOT World.I think both men are AMAZING writers and they have the 2 best shows on television(Netflix excluded)but lets say for the sake of argument...which is the better tv show..THE WALKING DEAD OR THE GAME OF THRONES?! FIGHT!

BEST CHARACTERS

The Walking Dead- Rick Grimes is the leader of this zombie apocalypse world and yes he is my fav character from both shows.Daryl is the redneck fan favorite and is the only reason that The Walking Dead has good merchandising sales.Carl is....well...hes got 1 eye now.I love Abraham and Eugene and they are tv gold everytime they are on the screen together.Glenn is my 2nd fav character on the show and I would argue has been the best actor out of all of them thus far.Maggie is Glenns wife that has grown also and is the heart of the show.Carol is just a bad mama jama.Michonne has also grown into a fan fav and her character is still probably got so much more to see.Morgan is a good character and its been fun having him on the show.....and Negan...well i think hes about to blow their world up and make the cast strength even stronger!

Game of Thrones- Jon Snow is the fan favorite on this show and everyones favorite bast...nope im not gonna say it! Tyrion Lannister is my personal favorite on the show and to me is the glue that holds this show together and the best actor.Sansa and Arya have grown into 2 grown women on the show that can hold their own with any character they are on screen with.Jamie Lannister has gone from one of the most hated characters to one of the most liked(although keep an eye on him and his sis at the family reunion)Cersei Lannister has got to be one of the most hated villains in tv history but man its fun to watch her act cuz she is also a bad mama jama.Denarius Targaryen commands the screen everytime she is on it and had the nerve to stand up to her tv bosses and say "I am woman hear me roar!...Well maybe not that but she did say nope on all that nudity all the time.Davos is slowly becoming a major player.Brienne is one of my favs and continues to be one of the many strong female leads on the show.Sams
father may hate him but we love him and hope he lives to see the end.Theion/Reek may be the most tortured character of any show...ever.

WINNER:Game of Thrones...I know,I know! but Game of Thrones characters are the most fun to watch and you wanna watch what happens to every single character on the show.(note: this was a tough pick and in a year who knows Negan could make this interesting)

Best World

The Walking Dead- a world full of zombies I mean "Walkers" and honestly the humans are a bigger threat than the Zom...I mean "Walkers"

Game of Thrones- a world full of witches, dragons, giants, and Winter Zombies....DOH! I mean White Walkers

Winner: Game of Thrones (im sorry but you cant argue with dragons!)

Best TV Writers

The Walking Dead- the show has had its ups and downs but more ups.I love that noone is safe on The Walking Dead. They may upset the fans on occasion with their cliffhangers BUT we always come back wanting more and most writers would have run out of ideas by season 3 for a zombie world but give them credit...the show is trending upwards and now we get Negan

Game of Thrones- they have been consistent all the way through with solid writing and sometimes GREAT writing.I love also that GOT writers truely will kill any of their characters(*cough* Jon Snow,Ned Stark,Kaitlyn Stark,Rob Stark)Season 5 was their best writing season...until season 6 and now it may surpass it..and guess what...we are getting closer to the big battle between the white walkers and all those power hungry characters.

Winner:- Game of Thrones(Emmys and the seasons are somehow getting better every single year)

Best Creator

The Walking Dead-Robert Kirkman has made a show about zombies relevant and one of the greatest tv shows ever. That may seem like not such a big deal now but make no mistake....The Walking Dead has surpassed and exceeded all expectations and noone seen that coming and its ratings are still growing and its all because of Kirkman and his creativity.

Game of Thrones-George RR Martin has made a fantasy tv show a cult hit and a legitimate tv powerhouse with Emmys to back it up.Martin has no fear when he writes and thats rare.

Winner:Tie (yes a tie because both creators are on a whole other level of creativity and are at the top of their game with 2nd place far far behind)

FINAL TALLY WINNER...GAME OF THRONES.Yes im excited for Negan and yes The Walking Dead is an unbelievable show but Game of Thrones is just the show to beat. Honestly if you have only watched The Walking Dead and not Game of Thrones then shhhhhhhhhhh you cant speak on this and also we the fans are Winners cuz we get to continue to watch these shows grow.I hope you enjoyed the article and I look forward to doing more. Thanks for your support and remember...A Lannister always pays their debts!

The Walking Dead vs Game of Thrones

   STAR WARS AND STAR TREK:

          SAME DIFFERENCE?!

“In a galaxy far, far away”...or, “To boldly go where no man has gone before”... These are lines that most people who have been exposed to television and movies have surely heard at least once. And most know that its either Star Trek or Star Wars. The one thing that has always been constant for me is how many people don’t know the difference. I always get the same answer when i politely correct them if they happen to say one or the other...”oh, well, its the same difference”. But that is so entirely untrue. They  are not even close to being the same. The cultural signifigance of each movie franchise is something that, unless you are a fan of them, may not fully realize. The thing i want to get most out of writing this is the hope that, after reading, there wont be a question of what seperates the two franchises. So, lets give this a try....

Star Wars

I start with the George Lucas creation, mainly because its my favorite. I’ve been a fan of the Star Wars movies since i was like 5 or something. They are great! Especially the original trilogy. The Empire Strikes Back is one of my all time favorite movies....period.... And it also gives us one of the most quatable lines in movie history. Now, i know what you are thinking. “Luke, I am your father”. You knew that, right? Everyone does. The problem is, Darth Vader, the main antagonist of the Star Wars movies (if you didnt know that, i dont have anything that will help you). Anyways....he never says that. “What!?” you may ask. Well, trust me on this, he doesnt. As Luke is hanging on for dear life in the Cloud City of Bespin, Vader actually says, “No, I am your father”. This is one of the biggest twists of any move....ever. “NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” Luke shouts. How can it be that the hero of the movie has a father that is the villain? It cant be! But, oh yes, it be. And from that moment on every Star Wars movie looked alot different to the moviegoer. All of sudden, it wasn’t as much about good vs evil as much as it was about the annointed savior, Anakin Skywalker, succombing to the temptations of evil instead of rising above that. Basically, Star wars is this in a nutshell.... Good monks vs bad monks. They both harness the life force of everything  around them, hence The Force. Whether good or bad, they manipulate that power for their own doing. And.....said life force ends up biting them both in the butt at some point, enter Anikan Skywalker/Darth Vader. Both personalites of this man do harm to both sides at some point. So I always wondered, should you be messing with powers like this? The whole galaxy is in turmoil because of it, even if they dont fully see it. The religious undertones of Star Wars is so deep. Its George Lucas’ way of explaining his spiritual feelings while also use “the force”, we call it Hollywood, to his benefit. Dont get me wrong, I’m so glad Lucas created these beloved stories. They are timeless and your grandkids grandkids will know what Star Wars is. He created a modern day mythology, but only for fun. No life or death here.... Who is Reys’ parents!!!!!!!!.....sorry about that. Thats something for another day. I know there’s so much more I could write about on this, but let me end it here and say, Star Wars isn’t some Sci Fi space movie where some big space station gets blown up...3 times now. Really?!.... Any how, Star Wars is so much more than that. It changed the way you watch movies today and if you peel back the dirty piece of the lettuce youll find so many more grand meanings and what Lucas wanted you to experience. Oh and toys, he really, really wanted you to buy toys...

Star Trek

“These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its 5 year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilization, to boldly go where no man, no one, has gone before”.... Ahhhh, such a great quote. This is the opening of the original Star Trek tv show and then the Next Generation. This is a story about man kind and its other worldly friends searching the cosmos for what else is really out there. Created by Gene Roddenberry, it was his take on the future and what could become of us. In the 23rd century, earthlings are living in a utopian, socialistic society. We work for each other. Not for fame or fortune. After wars that almost destroy us as a species, we survive and even make technological advances so astounding, we can even leave our own solar system in the search for other peoples and cultures. Some of them find us, we find some of them. But just like any other society, culture or govenment in our history, we soon feel the need to spread what works for us to other people. Unfortuantly, as history has shown, that doesn’t always work and the characters have to deal with this fact. I wont go into the different characters here, but one thing is always at work. The show always has a yen for its yang. Kirk and Spock, Picard and Riker, etc.... all of the Star Trek shows have this dynamic and it always works. Roddenberry wasn’t trying to make a cool science fiction show as much as he was making a political statement. At least in the early going anyways. He was a genius in his own right and was very far ahead of his time with the way he thought the world and mankind should be. And you know what? In some ways he was right. Traveling to distant worlds, in his mind, brought us togther as a world. Well, the space race of the 60’s in some ways did that as well. And this intrepid undertaking also brought scientific and technological advances that moved us ahead many years from the path we were on. So, like the great novelist before him, mainly, I feel, Jules Verne, did Roddenberry lay out a prediction of mankinds future? Ok, so maybe there arent really aliens. I dont know and wont pretend like i should. But i will say this. To quote Carl Sagan; “ if theres only us, thats alot of wasted space”. The main point I‘m making is this: Star Trek was a really cool and fun show to watch. The movies are a blast as well. Mostly anyways. But always remember, the point he tried to make and the foundation that was laid is that mankind can be better than we are. The sad thing is, we know that already and aren’t willing to embrace it. Our differnces push us apart when really they should bring us together. Spoiler alert......... in the second Star Trek movie, The Wrath of Khan, Spock dies saving the Enterprise and its crew from being destroyed because the “needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”. Spock is half Vulcan, half earthling. Logic is his religion and the logical thing to do was sacrifice himself. Most of us wouldn’t want to do that. But, he did. We would say it was because it was the right thing to do. As Kirk ulogizes him at the end, he says “ out of all the souls i have met, his was the most....human”. That, in my opinion, is the best line in the entire franchise. And it explains what I’ve been saying and what i feel Roddenberry wanted us to realize. No matter our differences, whether it be political, race, religion etc....we are all human as well.

I hope that this helps those who read this and may not have fully understood what seperates these two great franchises. I realize that if you are reading this, there's a good chance you do know what seperates them. We all have our own opinions and I’ve given you a small nibble of what mine are. I love both franchises and am so happy they keep moving forward with them for the future generation of fans. Just do me a favor. Next time you are talking about Star Wars or Star Trek and someone says they are “the same difference”, remind them just how different the 2 actually are......

Stay Nerdy!!!

Joey
